Five Guys Restaurant Night - Wed, December 2nd
We have our second restaurant night this Wednesday, December 2nd at Five Guys from 5-8.  Please stop by and get your dinner and tell all of your friends and family to do the same.  (Coach Spencer says not to let your wrestler eat Five Guys though if they need to make weight Thursday;)  Five Guys is giving us 20% of the receipts from 5-8 on Wednesday!!


First Away Match - Tue Dec 1st @ Stanhope Elmore
We have our first away match tomorrow at 6:00 at Stanhope Elmore and an away match on Thursday at Tallassee.  I hope that everyone can come out and support the team.

Varsity @ Ooltewah, TN - Sat, Dec 5th
Varsity will be traveling to Ooltewah, TN for a tournament Friday and Saturday.  I understand that the team will be staying at Hampton Inn Chattanooga-North/Ooltewah, 6145 Weir Way, Oolteway, TN, (423) 305-6800.

Varsity Swede Umbach - Dec 11th-12th
Our second Swede tournament (the varsity tournament this time) will be next weekend, the 11th and 12th.  We will be asking for volunteers soon.

Finally, all pizza card money and balance of fees are due Wednesday.

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight to Black and Blue Night!  It looks like it will be a great wrestling season.  

Don’t forget that the Junior High Swede Umbach Tournament is this Saturday.  The junior high wrestlers will be competing.  The varsity wrestlers will be working!

Also, make sure to use the sign up genius links and volunteer to work the tournament and/or to bring food for the hospitality room.  Remember, if you volunteer to work at the tournament, your admission is free.

Finally, there will be one more sign up genius link sent for the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that we provide the wrestlers at all matches and tournaments.  Be on the look out for that!

Everyone,

Thank you to all who volunteered to sell tickets at the high school football games to raise money for our wrestling team.  Now that we have begun the season in earnest, there will be many many more opportunities to volunteer.  Remember it takes all of us to make this program a success.  

The first opportunity is finding sponsors.  I have attached the sponsorship form to this email.  If you are able to be a sponsor, please do so.  If you know of any local businesses that wish to sponsor the wrestling team, please take them the form and ask for their help.  If you have any questions about sponsorships, please feel free to contact me, Dawn Stewart (our Vice President of Fund Raising dwstewart@auburnschools.org), or Coach Spencer (cspencer@auburnschools.org).

Remember the tire flip-a-thon will be held at 4:00 tomorrow in front of the high school.  This is always a fun event to watch and a great way to raise money for the program.  The wrestlers need to arrive by 3:30.

Black and Blue Night will be Monday, November 16th, and the Junior High Swede Tournament is right around the corner on November 21st.  I will need volunteers to work the ticket table, to work in the hospitality suite at the tournament, and to supply food for the hospitality suite.  You will receive an email at the end of this week for those volunteer opportunities.  We have always prided ourselves on hosting an outstanding tournament and having the best hospitality suite around.  Let’s continue that tradition.

Finally, don’t forget that all orders for wrestling shirts, hats, and bags must be submitted by tomorrow.  I will be at the tire flip-a-thon and can take any orders there.  For those of you who have submitted your money and booster package form, but have not yet received your yard sign and car decal, I will have those tomorrow as well.

Thank you to everyone who attended tonight’s wrestling meeting. I know that a lot of information was thrown at you so I wanted to take just a minute to recap a few of the important items and dates.  

1)  For those in 7th - 9th grade, practice will begin on Monday, October 26th.  For those in 10th - 12th grade, practice will being on Monday, November 2nd.  Practice will begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. All practices will be held in the wrestling gym, which is the old gym at the high school. Boys in the 7th-9th grade will take the bus from Drake or the junior high to the high school for practice each and every day. Wrestlers will need shorts, a t-shirt, and wrestling shoes at practice. If your child does not yet have wrestling shoes, that is fine.  Wrestlers may wear tennis shoes at the beginning. However, wrestling shoes should be purchased as soon as possible. Also, if your child wears braces, he will need a mouth guard/piece.

2)  All wrestlers in the 9th-12th grade will participate in a state-mandated hydration test on November 7th. The cost of this test will be $20.

3)  We will have our Tire Flip-a-Thon fundraiser on November 11th (Veteran’s Day) at 4:00 p.m. It will be held in front of the high school. The boys should find people to sponsor them per flip of the tire. If a sponsor would like to just donate a set amount that is fine too. The Flip-a-Thon forms were handed out at the meeting tonight. If you did not get one, the wrestlers may get one from Coach Spencer at the first practice. This is always a fun event to watch. *Click on icon at right for form*

4) We are also starting our Marco’s Pizza fundraiser. This is the fundraiser that can be used to offset the player’s wrestling fee of $150.00. The Marco’s discount card enables a holder to buy one pizza and get another pizza free and is good for 10 uses. The card costs $15. If each boy sells 10 cards, then he has raised his entire wrestling fee. If less than 15 cards are sold, then the player’s fee will be calculated by subtracting the amount sold from $150. The wrestler will be responsible for the remaining amount. For example, if a boy sells 8 cards, then the portion of his fee that must be paid by the family is $30 [150 - (8x15) = 30]. All sales are due by November 20th.

5)  We will have our next restaurant night on December 2nd at Five Guys!  Come eat some great food and put your receipt in the Auburn Wrestling bucket.

6)  To practice and compete, all players must have completed a physical and have all required paperwork on file with the Athletic Department. Visit our website www.auburntakedown.com for more information on the required paperwork. If your son has played a fall sport, all of this paperwork should already be on file.  (See August 14, 2015 entry)

7) I have attached a booster form to this email. Two different levels of booster packages are available as well as some ala carte items. A family season pass is included as part of our Fall Booster package. This gives up to 6 people entry into all home middle school, junior high, and varsity matches excluding the two Swede tournaments. You will write the 6 names down on the form and those names will be kept in a list at the ticket table for each home match. Thank you to everyone who purchased a booster package tonight at the meeting. If you did not get a chance to become a booster at the meeting, our treasurer, Karla McCormick, has graciously offered to be at some of the upcoming practices to collect forms and money. She is currently out of town, but as soon as I have the dates that she can be at practices, I will pass those along to you.

8) We are selling t-shirts, bags, and hats this year. We are offering a ladies cut t-shirt and a traditional cut t-shirt as well as performance tees. In addition, the duffle bags can be personalized. The order forms for those were also handed out at tonight’s meeting. I will forward that form by separate email sometime tomorrow. We will be placing our first order on November 12th so please turn in your order form and money by November 11th. Dawn Stewart will be at the flip-a-thon to collect forms and money on the 11th or you can turn in that form and money to Karla on the days that she can be at practice, which again I will forward to you as soon as I have.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend tonight’s meeting.  Here is a recap for those that missed it.

1)  We NEED ticket workers for the varsity football home games!!  This is a fantastic fundraising opportunity for us.  We can earn $250 per game.  We need 5 workers for each game.  Please click on the icon at right to sign up to work the ticket gate.  If you cannot be there right at 4:45, please contact me.  I will find someone to cover the gate until you can arrive.

2)  October 6th is Wrestling Night at Tenda Chick.  Tenda Chick is donating a portion of the receipts to the wrestling team for those who eat there between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Go get some chicken and support the wrestling team on October 6th!  

3)  We will have one restaurant night a month during October, November, December, and January.  Be on the lookout for future dates.

4) Our next meeting will be the pre-season skin meeting.  It will be held on October 21st at 6:00 in the AJHS auditorium. At the meeting, you will have the opportunity to join the booster club and purchase items for the season, including season passes for the home wrestling matches, t-shirts, yard signs, car decals, and more.  Please look for more information prior to the October 21st meeting.  We will also be launching the big fundraiser that can be used to offset each player’s fee for the season.  This will be a very important meeting.  Make plans to be there.  

Once again, don’t forget to look for the sign up genius email and sign up to work the ticket gates at the football games to support our wrestlers.

AHS/AJHS/Youth Booster Meeting
