Wrestling Parents, Fans, & Friends:

I would like to share an email with you from Dalton Dean’s aunt (Christine’s sister) & a few updates on the Dean family, as well:

My name is Catherine Coker and I'm Christine Dean's sister. I wanted to thank you for your kind words and everything Dalton's wrestling family is doing and for what you have done during the past several days. I know she appreciates it.  I am her baby sister and I live four hours away, so you can imagine my heartbreak of not being to be with her as much as I would like. I'm so thankful she has such a strong group of friends who are ready to "stand in the gap" for her!

Again, please pass along my thanks to all of the sweet families who are helping her. Words cannot adequately express how much each one of you mean to me.

Catherine Coker

Also, a lot of you have been contacting me to find out how you could help.  There are 2 ways that you could help with some things that are most needed by the Dean family, immediately:
1. By making financial donations to them either by store gift cards (esp. Publix, Walmart, or Kroger); straight cash donations; donations of local restaurant &/or food delivery gift cards &/or certificates; or donations of any Visa-type gift cards.
2. Some friends of Christine Dean have put together a sign-up page for providing &/or delivering meals for the Dean family, daily (through the end of the school year).  Please see the details in the post below.

Once again, thank you all so very much & please continue to uplift this family in prayer & render your support in any way that you can because the Dean family will continue to need all of the love & care that we can give them for a long, long, time---not only this week, this month, or this school year.  Also, know that all of your efforts & provisions are greatly appreciated by the Dean family, as well.

Wrestling Parents, Fans, & Friends:

I somberly & regretfully would like to inform you that the Auburn High Wrestling family has endured another tragic loss this year --- this time in the family of our wrestler, Dalton Dean.  Dalton’s father, Brent Dean, passed on Friday & details for the memorial service follow.  On behalf of the Booster Organization, we will have a parent drop off drinks for the family this evening.  But this loss will be felt by this family for a long time.  As any of you may know, losing a spouse & a parent is a hard thing to experience & can be an especially long process of bereavement for children.  Therefore, we would like to ask that you all uplift & keep this very special family in your prayers, as we support them in anything that they may need to help them get through it.  As you will see from the obit that follows, the service will be held tomorrow.  Any wrestlers interested in attending the memorial service will need to be checked out from school because the service is at 1pm, but Mrs. Kathy Friedenreich will drive her van & can give some wrestlers a ride to the service, if needed---provided that all school check-out procedures have been met by the wrestlers’ parents/guardians.  Any monetary/gift card donations can be dropped off to me at my office at the Dean Road Recreation Center (307 S. Dean Rd---down the street from Auburn High School & the Auburn Public Library, as well as, right next door to Dean Road Elementary School) anytime between the hours of 8am & 5pm, M-F.  If you’re interested in donating food items, (ie. drinks, thaw & warm food items, etc.) to assist Christine & her family, please contact me at my office number: (334) 501-2950 or my cell: (334) 524-9721 to coordinate drop-offs.  All donations that I collect will be presented to the Dean family by our wrestling teams’ Captains from our “Wrestling Family”.  Thank you all, in advance, for your support & assistance with this matter.

Auburn Takedown Family,

The coaching staff of the Auburn Wrestling Program would like to extend our greatest thanks to our departing Head Coach, Nick Tucker.  Coach Tucker came to Auburn in 2009 and took a program that was, at the time, growing, but still a long way from competing at the highest level in the state. In his first year at Auburn, the Tigers finished 3rd in the 6A Section 1 Wresting Tournament.  In year one, Coach Tucker guided the team in accomplishing their first goal, place in the top three at sectionals. In 2013, the team reached its next highest goal; placing top 10 in the 6A State Tournament.  The team finished 7th that year, highest in AHS Wresting history.  The team then eclipsed that mark in 2014 placing 3rd.  During this past season, the first in 7A, a young team finished 9th in the state tournament.  This completed top 10 finishes in each of the last three seasons.  In addition to team accomplishments, during the last six years under Coach Tucker, the program has had four State Champions, as well as multiple place winners and state qualifiers.

For the coaching staff, Coach Tucker mentored and led us while still desiring to learn from each person.  There was no doubt that Coach Tucker was in charge, but he always considered and valued each of our thoughts, opinions, and critiques.  He taught us new ways to look of at wrestling, training (anybody still up for Summer Boot Camp @ 6am?), and how to build a program.  During his time in Auburn, Coach Tucker, brought all of us together and helped create a brand for everyone to be extremely proud of; Auburn Takedown.  Auburn Takedown has brought together our 7th – 12th grade program, the boosters club, our USA Wrestling club program, and the Auburn Youth Wrestling Program.  Auburn Takedown is a brand, a vision, a family; we are Auburn Takedown.

Now as we move forward together Coach Tanaka, Coach Spurlock, Coach Eckhardt, Coach Ramsey, and I want you to know that we will continue to work diligently to direct and grow this program.  Coach Eckhardt and Coach Spurlock will be running the spring conditioning, lifting, and USA Wrestling club program (check the website, facebook, twitter, and the Google calendar) for dates, times, and other info.  Coach Ramsey and I will be handling any administrative issues that may arise.  If you have any questions, or know of anyone interested in Auburn Takedown, please let us know.  If anyone has questions about the youth program please direct them to either Coach Tanaka or myself.

As we move forward in the process of naming a new head coach, the coaching staff will be working with Coach McCall’s office, the administrations of AHS and AJHS, and central office to find the right person to take charge of our varsity program.  Again we thank Coach Tucker for everything he has done and now we must not let him down.  Auburn Takedown will continue to grow as we move forward through this transition.

Auburn Wrestling Family,

I write this with a heavy heart for the impact it will have but through a lot of prayer and conversation with my family I have decided to step down as the Head Coach of the Wrestling Program. New opportunities have been presented to my family and me that we feel are a path the Lord has for us to travel. This was not an easy decision and we know the impact it will have on the program we have built. I have spoken with the current staff and they will have an off season training program in place. They plan to continue forward as if nothing had changed, which is the way a program works.

When my family and I came here six years ago, we said we wanted to build a program that would last past the wrestlers and coaches.  In order for that to happen, we spent the first year laying a foundation of stone and I referred the team and coaches to the passage in the Bible of this constantly. There has not been a season since where I have not asked myself if we are still on stone. After making this decision and talking with the staff I can emphatically tell you that the Auburn Wrestling Program is laid on STONE! I have the utmost confidence in the coaches and parents to keep this program as a consistent contender in the state. The youth program is primed to explode in the coming years and that will only lead to bigger and better things for the program. Because of this I feel sure that there will be quality candidates apply to lead the program and I will help recommend these to the current administration.

Our family is grounded in faith and we hope to reflect the love Christ showed us in your kids. We know that we fail sometimes but we hope you know that each one of you is important to us. As a teenage wrestler, my high school coach introduced me to “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. Little did I know how important this poem would be in my travels in life and faith? My family and I took a path to Auburn six years ago with the belief this was our final stop and laid our soul into building a program and family. Now we have come to another split and we know we must take this new path. It will be sad to leave initially but the memories will always be happy and joyful. I can leave with pride knowing that Auburn Wrestling is better than when I arrived.

We are currently talking with a couple of programs but little is known as to where we will end up at this point in time. As our final destination is set, we will let you know and we look forward to keeping in touch with you. You guys have been a part of the raising of our own kids and we cannot thank you enough! Wrestling is truly and family sport and you will always be part of ours.

God Bless
Coach Tucker
