NHSCA Tune-Up event at Hoover this Saturday
The Skull and Crossbones Wrestling Club is sponsoring a National High School Coaches Association “Tune-Up” event at Hoover High School this Saturday!  This is an NHSCA event so wrestlers do not need a card. They will use college out of bounds rules just like the NHSCA will use in Virginia Beach (back points and pins can occur out of bounds).

Freestyle season is right around the corner!  The Auburn Takedown Club will be offering instruction in Freestyle Wrestling for current grades 6th-12th starting on Monday, March 7th, 2016 at the Auburn High School Old Gym.

Five Guys Restaurant Night - Wed, December 2nd
We have our second restaurant night this Wednesday, December 2nd at Five Guys from 5-8.  Please stop by and get your dinner and tell all of your friends and family to do the same.  (Coach Spencer says not to let your wrestler eat Five Guys though if they need to make weight Thursday;)  Five Guys is giving us 20% of the receipts from 5-8 on Wednesday!!


First Away Match - Tue Dec 1st @ Stanhope Elmore
We have our first away match tomorrow at 6:00 at Stanhope Elmore and an away match on Thursday at Tallassee.  I hope that everyone can come out and support the team.

Varsity @ Ooltewah, TN - Sat, Dec 5th
Varsity will be traveling to Ooltewah, TN for a tournament Friday and Saturday.  I understand that the team will be staying at Hampton Inn Chattanooga-North/Ooltewah, 6145 Weir Way, Oolteway, TN, (423) 305-6800.

Varsity Swede Umbach - Dec 11th-12th
Our second Swede tournament (the varsity tournament this time) will be next weekend, the 11th and 12th.  We will be asking for volunteers soon.

Finally, all pizza card money and balance of fees are due Wednesday.

9th-12th Grade Wrestling Parents!

A reminder that all wrestlers in the 9th-12th grade will participate in a state-mandated hydration test on Saturday, November 7th at the Auburn High School Old Gym from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM.  The cost of this test will be $20 per student. If an athlete fails the hydration test, a $10 charge will be assessed for a retest.  Additional details of the “Minimum Weight Program” can be found in the attached pdf below.

How to prepare for the hydration test
- No vigorous activity on the evening before and on the day of testing.
Avoid caffeinated beverages on the day before and the day of testing.
- On the day of testing, drink 500ml (17 oz.) of fluid. (A sports drink is an excellent choice).
- In preparation for the hydration test drink 2-4 cups of water in a 1-2 hour period immediately preceding the test.
- Be awake three hours prior to testing.
- Do not eat two hours prior to testing.
- Avoid any vitamin or mineral supplements two days before and the day of testing.
- Wrestlers should report in “weigh-in attire” only.

Tire Flip-a-Thon, November 11th

The Tire Flip-a-Thon fundraiser will be held on November 11th (Veteran’s Day) at 4:00 PM in front of the high school. The boys should find people to sponsor them per flip of the tire. If a sponsor would like to just donate a set amount that is fine too. This is always a fun event to watch.  If you haven’t received a Flip-a-Thon form, click on the icon above to download one to print.

Oct 6th: Wrestling Night at Tenda Chick
Tenda Chick is donating a portion of the receipts to the wrestling team for those who eat there between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Go get some chicken and support the wrestling team on October 6th!  

Oct 21st: Parent Meeting @ 6PM in the AJHS auditorium
At the meeting, you will have the opportunity to join the booster club and purchase items for the season, including season passes for the home wrestling matches, t-shirts, yard signs, car decals, and more.  Please look for more information prior to the October 21st meeting.  We will also be launching the big fundraiser that can be used to offset each player’s fee for the season.  This will be a very important meeting.  Make plans to be there.

Student-Athlete Eligibility Requirements
AHSAA and Auburn City Schools requires the following forms to be completed ANNUALLY and on file in the Auburn City Schools Athletic Office prior to a student-athlete participating in any tryout, practice or game/contest:

-- AHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Form: Front side completed and signed by the student and parent/guardian. Back side must be completed, dated and signed by an MD/DO.
   - Exams can be completed at the following locations:
     . Hughston Clinic: 161 E. University Drive, Auburn
     . Moore’s Mill Urgent Care: 2415 Moore’s Mill Rd, Auburn
     . American Family Care South College: 1902 South College St, Auburn
     . American Family Care Tiger Town: 2544 Enterprise Dr, Opelika

-- AHSAA Concussion Information Form: Parent/Guardian and student must print their respective names, sign and date

-- AHSAA Participant Agreement, Consent and Release Form: Parent/Guardian and student must print their respective names, sign and date

-- Auburn City Schools Medical Information Release and Insurance Form: Insurance information must be completed and form dated and signed by parent/guardian.

The following requirements are completed one time with certificates remaining in the student-athlete’s file in the Auburn City Schools Athletic Office until graduation.

-- Student Certified Birth Certificate: Original certified birth certificate brought to Athletic Office to be copied and the copy then placed in student-athlete’s file.

-- Student STAR Sportsmanship Certificate: Complete the STAR program and print certificate of completion to be placed in student-athlete’s file. (See below)

The program will begin – complete as directed. Once you have completed all the sections of the program, print your completion certificate and submit it to the athletic office.


Voluntary Drug Testing
The Independent Decision (ID) Program aims to reinforce a positive drug free lifestyle by providing incentives to 7th through 12th grade students who refrain from using drugs. Students participating in the voluntary program agree to undergo random drug screening. Those who do not test positive for drugs become eligible for rewards.

We’ll be concentrating on weight-lifting for the bulk of our summer workouts using Cory Gregory’s Squat. Every. Day. muscle-building training program. A significant feature of this program is the daily changing list of exercises. Click here or on the icon at right to view the entire program. Even though we are not working out every day, we will go in order from Monday through Thursday, then pick back up on the next Monday. The website also provides short videos on how to properly execute each exercise.
